Zijin Mining’s overseas mines supplied at least 57% of its mined gold and about 48% of its mined copper in the first half of 2026, going by the eight overseas gold mines and four overseas copper mines named in its interim results filed with the Hong Kong exchange on 23 August 2026. The largest overseas gold mine by output was Buriticรก in Colombia, and the largest overseas copper mine was ฤŒukaru Peki in Serbia.

This page ranks those mines, explains how Zijin built the portfolio abroad, lists the stock codes and listed subsidiaries, and answers what happened to Prime Mining, the second company in the old title of this page. It states facts only. It is not investment advice, and it gives no share prices or targets.

Zijin Mining overseas mines ranked by output

Zijin reports “mined gold” and “mined copper” for each mine in two ways: the full mine output, and the part that belongs to Zijin after its ownership share is applied (the attributable basis). The table ranks the eight overseas gold mines named in the interim report by full mine output for the six months to 30 June 2026. One kilogram is about 32.15 troy ounces.

Rank Mine Country Zijin interest Mined gold, full mine (kg) Mined gold, attributable (kg)
1 Buriticรก Colombia 58.97% 4,207 2,481
2 Akyem Ghana 85% 3,985 3,387
3 Rosebel Suriname 80.75% 3,796 3,066
4 Norton Australia 85% 3,793 3,224
5 Raygorodok Kazakhstan 85% 3,290 2,796
6 Zeravshan Tajikistan 59.5% 2,974 1,770
7 Serbia Zijin Mining (ฤŒukaru Peki) Serbia 100% 2,502 2,502
8 Aurora Guyana 85% 2,214 1,882

Together these eight mines produced 26,761 kg of the group’s 46,702 kg of mined gold, or 57.3%. Two named mines in China, Longnan Zijin (3,797 kg) and Shanxi Zijin (2,583 kg), and a group of smaller mines (13,561 kg) make up the rest, so the true overseas share could be higher. The ranking changes on the attributable basis: Akyem (3,387 kg) comes first, ahead of Norton (3,224 kg) and Rosebel (3,066 kg), because Zijin owns only 58.97% of Buriticรก.

Overseas copper is smaller in number but large in tonnes. Four named mines gave 257,789 tonnes of the group’s 534,407 tonnes of mined copper in the same period, or 48.2%. The Kamoa figure is the attributable share only.

Rank Mine Country Zijin interest Mined copper (tonnes)
1 Serbia Zijin Mining (ฤŒukaru Peki) Serbia 100% 85,155
2 Serbia Zijin Copper (Bor) Serbia 63% 59,321
3 Kolwezi copper-cobalt mine DR Congo 67% 58,938
4 Kamoa (attributable share) DR Congo 44.19% 54,375

How we chose and ranked the mines

We used one source for the numbers: the production tables in Zijin’s unaudited interim announcement for the six months to 30 June 2026. We counted a mine as overseas if it sits outside mainland China, and we ranked by full mine output because that is the figure Zijin lists first. We then showed the attributable figure beside it, so you can see how ownership changes the order.

Three limits apply. The figures are half-year, not annual, and they are unaudited. Zijin groups many smaller mines into “other mines”, so the named list is a floor, not a total. And the interim report gives no mine-level profit, so this ranking says nothing about which mine earns the most.

Which overseas gold mines produce the most

The chart shows the same eight mines in tonnes. The spread is narrow: the top five sit between 3.3 and 4.2 tonnes for the half-year, which fits the strategy of owning many mid-sized mines instead of one very large one.

Five mines sit between 3.3 and 4.2 tonnes; Buriticรก leads but Zijin owns 58.97% of it.

Zijin’s full-year 2025 gold output was 90 tonnes, up 23%, a rise it attributes mainly to the Akyem mine in Ghana and the Raygorodok mine in Kazakhstan (Ghana News Agency, March 2026). For scale, the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026 puts world mine production at about 3,300 tonnes in 2025 (estimate), so Zijin’s 90 tonnes is roughly 2.7% of the world total. The two numbers are not on exactly the same basis, because Zijin reports consolidated output and USGS counts by country, so treat the share as a guide.

On ranking, the sources disagree on method, not on facts. In its interim report Zijin says it ranks first among global gold enterprises on the Forbes Global 2000 list. By 2025 gold output, MINING.COM ranked Zijin fourth, after Newmont, Agnico Eagle and Barrick Mining.

Overseas copper: Serbia and the Congo

Serbia is Zijin’s biggest overseas copper base. ฤŒukaru Peki is a high-sulphidation epithermal and porphyry copper-gold mine in Bor, owned 100% by Zijin, with an upper zone in production and a lower zone under construction (Zijin key projects page). Zijin says ฤŒukaru Peki and the nearby Bor mine produced 296,000 tonnes of copper and 9.1 tonnes of gold together in 2025, which makes it the second-largest copper producer in Europe, and that expansion aims at 450,000 tonnes a year. Zijin owns 63% of Bor (Zijin key projects page).

Serbia and the Congo supply four of the seven largest copper operations; Julong in China is the largest single mine.

In the DR Congo, Zijin runs the Kolwezi copper-cobalt mine (67%) and holds a stake in Kamoa-Kakula, which Ivanhoe Mines operates. Kamoa is the weak spot of 2026. A seismic event in May 2025 caused flooding and closed part of the Kakula underground workings, and output is still ramping up after the restart. Zijin’s interim report says the mine flooding incident forced it to cut the Kamoa-Kakula production plan from 380,000-420,000 tonnes to 290,000-330,000 tonnes. Ivanhoe’s own second-quarter 2026 results tightened its 2026 guidance to 290,000-310,000 tonnes and said production should be higher in the second half.

The effect shows in group numbers. Mined copper fell 5.7% to 534,407 tonnes, but excluding Kamoa it rose 4.8% to 480,032 tonnes. For context, USGS estimates 2025 world mine production at 23 million tonnes, with the Congo at 3.2 million and China at 1.8 million, so Zijin’s 2025 output of 1.09 million tonnes is about 4.7% of the world total on the same rough basis.

How Zijin built its overseas portfolio: the deals

Most of the overseas gold output came from purchases in the last few years. These are the deals with dates and sources.

  • ฤŒukaru Peki, Serbia: Zijin took 100% through two transactions in 2018 and 2019 (Zijin).
  • Akyem, Ghana: Newmont announced the sale for up to US$1 billion in cash in October 2024, with US$900 million at closing (Newmont, SEC filing). Zijin said the deal closed on 16 April 2025 (Ghana News Agency). The mine produced 6.4 tonnes of gold in 2024, down from 13.1 tonnes in 2022.
  • Raygorodok, Kazakhstan: bought during 2025, and the Zijin Gold IPO proceeds were partly set aside to pay for it (Conyers).
  • Allied Gold, Canada and Africa: in January 2026 Zijin Gold International agreed to buy Allied Gold for C$5.5 billion (US$4.01 billion). The two sides ended the agreement because the closing conditions were unlikely to be met by the 29 July 2026 deadline. Zijin Gold instead bought about 12.8 million Allied shares at C$32.55, roughly 9.2% of Allied, and the interim report confirms that subscription is complete (Mining Technology).

The Allied episode is a useful reminder that large cross-border deals can fail. Even a signed agreement is not a mine in the portfolio until it closes.

Net profit rose faster than income, helped by higher metal prices.

Full-year 2025 gave operating revenue of RMB 349.079 billion and net profit of RMB 51.777 billion, up 61.55% (Mysteel, March 2026). Output that year was 90 tonnes of gold, 1.09 million tonnes of copper and 25,500 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent. The company’s 2026 targets, as reported in March, were 105 tonnes of gold, 1.2 million tonnes of copper and 120,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent. The interim report says the Kamoa cut and maintenance stoppages at some Chinese mines put pressure on the copper target.

What happened to Prime Mining stock

The old version of this page called Prime Mining a separate growth stock with the codes PRYM.V and PRMNF. Both are out of date. Torex Gold Resources (TSX: TXG; OTCQX: TORXF) completed its acquisition of Prime Mining Corp. on 22 October 2025, and Prime’s shares were due to be delisted from the Toronto exchange and to stop trading on OTCQX and Frankfurt within two to three business days (Torex release, 22 October 2025). There is no Prime Mining stock to buy now.

Prime’s main asset, the Los Reyes gold-silver project in Sinaloa, Mexico, now belongs to Torex. At the time of the deal it carried Indicated resources of about 1.5 million ounces of gold and 54.0 million ounces of silver, plus Inferred resources of 538,000 ounces of gold and 21.6 million ounces of silver. Torex then published a preliminary economic assessment (PEA) on 7 July 2026. A PEA is an early study that may include Inferred resources and cannot support reserves.

Los Reyes PEA item Result (Torex, 7 July 2026)
After-tax NPV at 5% discount rate US$1,491 million at US$3,600/oz gold and US$50/oz silver
After-tax IRR 37.3%
Upfront capital US$515 million
Mine life 14.4 years
Average output 134,000 oz gold equivalent a year (93,000 oz gold)
Construction start; first production 2029; 2031

How Zijin compares with other large gold and copper producers

The old page compared Zijin with Barrick and Freeport-McMoRan using price ranges and growth percentages that no source supported. We removed those. What can be stated with sources is who produces what. By 2025 gold output, MINING.COM’s ranking runs Newmont (NYSE, ASX: NEM), Agnico Eagle Mines (NYSE, TSX: AEM), Barrick Mining (TSX: ABX; NYSE: B) and Zijin. Barrick’s output fell sharply in 2025 after it suspended its Loulo-Gounkoto complex in Mali in January and resumed in December. Freeport-McMoRan (NYSE: FCX) produced about 1 million ounces of gold at Grasberg in Indonesia.

Barrick’s New York code is B, as MINING.COM lists it, not the GOLD code the old table used. Check any ticker against the exchange before you rely on a list from an older page.

The gold and copper markets also move on demand. The World Gold Council put second-quarter 2026 global mine supply at about 966 tonnes, up 2% on the year (World Gold Council, Q2 2026). A miner with more mines in more countries spreads operating risk, but adds political and currency risk.

What to check in a miner’s filings

  1. Attributable or full output. Look for both. A 58.97% owner like Zijin at Buriticรก reports 4,207 kg but owns the economics of only 2,481 kg.
  2. Grade and cost. Grade is the amount of metal per tonne of ore, in grams per tonne (g/t) for gold. All-in sustaining cost (AISC) is the cost per ounce including mine upkeep. Both are in annual reports and show whether output rises for good reasons.
  3. Resources and reserves. Reserves are the part of a deposit that can be mined at a profit under a study; resources are less certain. A PEA like Los Reyes uses both and carries more uncertainty than a feasibility study.
  4. Where the mine sits. Mali, Congo and other jurisdictions have changed rules or halted sites. Barrick’s Mali suspension is a case in point.
  5. Listing and currency. The same company can trade in several places and currencies, as Zijin does.
  6. Deal status. Treat announced acquisitions as pending until the closing notice, as the Allied Gold case shows.

For listing venues, our guide to Vancouver mining companies versus Toronto listings explains where many juniors raise money, and our notes on mineral exploration spending in Canada show how much the sector spends before a mine exists.

Where satellite data fits

Before a company drills, it needs to decide where. Satellite imagery can screen a licence area for alteration and structure to produce exploration targets that sit ahead of any resource estimate. Farmonaut’s satellite mineral detection service does this for licence owners, consultants and investors who want to see a project area from space. You can ask for a quote through the mining query form or the contact page.
