Evolution Mining B2B vs B2C: What the Company Actually Sells, and to Whom
Evolution Mining is a pure business-to-business seller. It has no consumer channel at all. Its revenue comes from two physical products moving to a small number of industrial counterparties: gold-silver dorรฉ bars trucked to refineries, and copper-gold concentrate railed to smelters and traders under offtake agreements. Nobody buys anything from Evolution Mining with a credit card, and the company sets no prices โ its metal is settled against London and exchange reference prices on a contractual quotational period.
That single answer covers the question most people are searching. What follows is the part a summary cannot give you: the physical form of each product, the buyer types behind them, the numbers as reported, a per-tonne concentrate calculator you can run on your own contract terms, and a verification checklist that still works when every figure on this page is out of date.

The two products, and the buyer behind each
Evolution Mining runs six operations โ Cowal, Ernest Henry, Northparkes, Red Lake, Mungari and Mt Rawdon โ per the operations list on evolutionmining.com. Those assets produce metal in two commercially different forms, and the difference explains the entire business model.
1. Dorรฉ: mine to refinery
At the free-milling gold operations, gold is poured on site into dorรฉ โ an unrefined alloy bar, mostly gold and silver with residual base metals. Dorรฉ is worthless to a consumer. It goes to a precious metals refinery, which assays it, refines it to market-deliverable purity and credits a metal account. The counterparty is a refiner or a bullion bank, the volume per shipment runs to thousands of ounces, and settlement follows the London benchmark price rather than a negotiated retail figure. One shipment of dorรฉ is a transaction with one institution.
2. Copper-gold concentrate: mine to smelter, under offtake
Ernest Henry, located 38 km north-east of Cloncurry in Queensland, is a sub-level cave hoisting ore through a 1,000-metre shaft, per Evolution’s FY25 Ernest Henry fact sheet. It produces a copper concentrate carrying payable gold as a by-product. Concentrate is a damp powder of roughly 20โ30% copper. It cannot be used by anyone who does not own a smelter. It is sold under multi-year offtake agreements to smelters or to traders who place it with smelters, and the price is not the copper price: it is the copper price multiplied by a payable factor, minus a treatment charge per dry tonne and a refining charge per pound of payable metal.
| Stage | Product form | Who buys it | Transaction type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mine (Evolution, Agnico Eagle) | Dorรฉ bar | Precious metals refiner, bullion bank | B2B โ benchmark-priced, account-settled |
| Mine (Ernest Henry, Northparkes, Freeport) | Copper concentrate | Smelter, concentrate trader | B2B โ offtake with TC/RC deductions |
| Smelter / SX-EW plant | Cathode | Rod mills, brass mills | B2B โ exchange-referenced plus premium |
| Rod mill | Copper rod | Wire and cable manufacturers, OEMs | B2B โ conversion contracts |
| Refiner, mint, fabricator | Coins, bars, jewellery, wiring in finished goods | Households, retail investors | B2C begins here โ three to five steps from the pit |
Where the B2C boundary actually sits
The confusion in “evolution mining business model b2b or b2c” comes from the fact that gold has a visible consumer market. It does โ but not at the mine gate. In Q2 2026 the World Gold Council recorded 307.1 tonnes of bar and coin demand and 278 tonnes of jewellery demand against total demand including OTC of 1,269 tonnes, per Gold Demand Trends Q2 2026. Every ounce in those two categories passed through a refiner and then a mint, fabricator or retailer before a consumer touched it. Central banks bought 289 tonnes in the same quarter, and they buy in the market, not from mine sites.
So the honest phrasing is this: Evolution Mining’s output eventually reaches consumers, and none of Evolution Mining’s revenue comes from consumers. The company faces refiners, smelters and traders. Even the retail-looking end of the gold market โ coins from a national mint โ is a B2B relationship for the miner, because the mint is the customer.
Quarterly updates to these demand figures are published by the World Gold Council; the underlying series back to 2010 sits on its supply and demand statistics page, which listed data current to 30 June 2026. Check there rather than relying on the quarter quoted here.
The reported numbers: Evolution, Agnico Eagle, Freeport
Evolution reported FY25 (year to 30 June 2025) production of 750,512 ounces of gold and 76,261 tonnes of copper, statutory net profit of A$926 million โ up 119% year on year โ underlying EBITDA of A$2.21 billion and an all-in sustaining cost of A$1,653 per ounce. For the half year to 31 December 2025 it reported revenue of A$2.79 billion against A$2,032.8 million in the prior corresponding half, net profit after tax of A$766.6 million against A$365.1 million, and a fully franked interim dividend of 20 cents. The source documents are the Appendix 4E and half-year release on the company’s investor centre, which is where the next set of figures will appear.
Agnico Eagle, the comparison most often searched alongside Evolution, produced 3,447,367 ounces of payable gold in the year to 31 December 2025 at total cash costs of $979 per ounce and AISC of $1,339 per ounce, on an average realised price of $3,454 per ounce, generating free cash flow of $4,399 million ($8.76 per share). Its guidance for 2026 is 3.3 to 3.5 million ounces. All of that is in the company’s fourth quarter and full year 2025 results release. Note what is absent from that release: any consumer segment, any retail revenue line, any customer-acquisition metric.
Freeport-McMoRan reported 2025 revenues of $25.9 billion in its Form 10-K for the year ended 31 December 2025, filed in February 2026, with roughly 75% of revenue from copper, 15% from gold and 8% from molybdenum. Freeport is the clearest case of all: it operates mines in Arizona and New Mexico and it also owns the conversion steps. Its North America operations page lists Safford/Lone Star in Graham County, Arizona at approximately 320 million pounds of copper cathode per year, Morenci in Greenlee County milling about 115,000 metric tons of ore per day, Sierrita in Pima County at 100,000 metric tons per day, Bagdad in Yavapai County at 77,100 metric tons per day, and Chino in Grant County, New Mexico at 36,000 metric tons per day. The Miami operation in Gila County runs a rod mill producing copper rod coils โ rod being the input for wire and cable manufacturers. That is B2B integration made physical.

Price-taker economics: why B2B is not a strategic choice
A consumer business sets a price and defends a margin with branding. A miner cannot. The price of an ounce or a tonne is set on an exchange, and the only variables management controls are volume and unit cost. That is why every miner’s investor communication is built around cost per ounce rather than around customers.
Agnico Eagle’s 2025 figures make the structure visible: an average realised price of $3,454 per ounce, total cash costs of $979 per ounce and AISC of $1,339 per ounce. The gap between the realised price and AISC is the entire commercial proposition โ there is no pricing power in it, only cost discipline.
The same logic runs through copper. Evolution’s investor page carried a live price ticker showing gold at US$4,310/oz (A$6,119/oz) and copper at US$14,624/t (A$20,773/t) when checked on 7 August 2026; those figures move every trading day, which is precisely the point โ the seller does not set them. For concentrate, one further layer applies: the smelter deducts treatment and refining charges, so the miner receives less than the exchange value of the contained metal. Those deductions are negotiated between miners and smelters and are the real commercial battleground in copper B2B.

Assumptions and exclusions. Copper only โ gold and silver credits, penalty elements (arsenic, fluorine), moisture, price participation, freight, insurance and quotational-period adjustments are all excluded, and each of those moves the answer. The default copper price is the spot figure Evolution's investor page displayed on 7 August 2026; the default treatment and refining charges are placeholders, not a published benchmark. Replace all five inputs with your own contract terms.
What B2B marketing looks like in mining
Search interest in "b2b marketing mining" usually expects the familiar toolkit โ funnels, demand generation, brand campaigns. Mining runs almost none of it, and understanding why clarifies the B2B/B2C question further.
- The customer list is short enough to name. There are only so many copper smelters and precious metals refiners on earth. Relationship management replaces lead generation; a commercial team may deal with fewer counterparties in a year than a software firm signs in a week.
- Technical specification is the pitch. Concentrate is marketed on its assay: copper grade, gold and silver credits, and the penalty elements a smelter will charge for. A cleaner concentrate wins better terms. That document, not a brochure, is the sales asset.
- Investor relations carries the brand load. The audience being persuaded is capital markets, not buyers. Results releases, quarterly production reports, guidance and reserve statements are the public communication programme.
- Events are commercial, not promotional. Industry gatherings such as Diggers & Dealers in Kalgoorlie function as deal venues for offtake, financing and M&A conversations.
A specialized B2B market โ and how it differs from B2B agricultural products
Mining sits at the far end of the specialized B2B spectrum: a fungible product, a price set externally, a handful of qualified buyers, contracts measured in years, and logistics โ rail, port, ship โ that constrain who can buy at all. Switching costs are physical rather than contractual; a concentrate is blended for particular smelter flowsheets.
The contrast with B2B agricultural products is instructive because Farmonaut works across both. Fertiliser, seed and machinery are also sold business-to-business on specification and contract, but they carry brand and agronomic differentiation, seasonality, and a distributor and dealer layer that mining lacks entirely. A fertiliser blender can hold a price premium on formulation; a copper miner cannot hold a premium on copper. The metal that leaves Ernest Henry does end up in agricultural equipment โ motor windings in centre-pivot irrigation systems across the US High Plains, wiring harnesses in harvesters โ but it arrives there through smelters, rod mills and OEM procurement teams, never through a farm supply channel.

Every number on this page will age. This method will not. Use it on Evolution Mining or any other producer.
- Open the annual report and find the revenue note. In IFRS accounts it is usually "Revenue from contracts with customers". It disaggregates revenue by commodity and often by product form โ dorรฉ versus concentrate. If there were a consumer channel, it would need its own line here.
- Read the major customers or concentration disclosure. Both IFRS and US GAAP require disclosure of customers representing 10% or more of revenue. A miner whose revenue concentrates in a few named counterparties is definitionally B2B. A B2C business could never produce such a note.
- Check the segment note. Mining segments are named after mines and geographies. Consumer businesses segment by channel or customer type. The naming convention alone answers the question.
- Search the filing for "offtake", "quotational period" and "provisional pricing". These terms only exist in contracts between industrial parties. Provisional pricing means the invoice is finalised weeks later against an average exchange price โ a mechanism no consumer would accept.
- Look at the price realisation table. If the company reports an average realised price per ounce or per tonne against a benchmark, it is a price-taker selling into a market, not a seller setting prices for buyers.
Satellite intelligence for mineral targeting
The B2B structure described above has one consequence for exploration: because a miner cannot lift its price, everything hinges on finding and proving ounces and tonnes at competitive cost. That is where non-invasive screening earns its place, ahead of drilling capital being committed.
- Satellite-based prospectivity mapping narrows a licence area to ranked targets before a rig moves, using multispectral and hyperspectral signatures with no ground disturbance.
- Screening speed matters most at the portfolio stage, when a team is deciding which of several tenements deserves a field season.
- Low-impact workflow aligns with the permitting and stakeholder expectations that govern access in Australian and North American jurisdictions.

Frequently asked questions
Is Evolution Mining B2B or B2C?
B2B, without qualification. It sells gold-silver dorรฉ to refiners and copper-gold concentrate to smelters and traders under offtake agreements. There is no retail or direct-to-consumer channel in its reported revenue.
Does Evolution Mining sell gold to the public?
No. Retail bars and coins come from refiners and mints that buy refined metal in the market. Evolution's dorรฉ is not a saleable consumer product; it is an unrefined alloy that requires assay and refining first.
Who are Evolution Mining's customers?
By category: precious metals refiners for dorรฉ, and copper smelters or concentrate traders for Ernest Henry and Northparkes concentrate. Named counterparties, where any exceed 10% of revenue, are disclosed in the customer-concentration note of the annual financial report on the company's investor centre.
Why does the B2B/B2C distinction matter for a mining investor?
Because it tells you where the risk sits. A B2B commodity producer has no marketing lever, no pricing power and no customer churn โ it has volume risk, cost inflation, grade risk and counterparty risk. Agnico Eagle's 2025 spread between a $3,454 per ounce realised price and $1,339 per ounce AISC illustrates the point: margin came from the market and from cost control, not from the customer relationship.
Do any large miners run a genuine B2C channel?
Retail-facing gold products exist, but they sit with refiners, mints and dealers rather than with mine operators. When you see a miner's name on a coin, it usually reflects a refining or branding arrangement downstream, not a mine selling to a household.
How do treatment and refining charges change what a miner receives?
They convert an exchange price into a net payable amount. The smelter pays for a fixed percentage of contained metal, then deducts a charge per dry tonne of concentrate and a charge per payable pound of metal. The calculator above shows the size of that gap for any grade and terms you enter.
The short version
Evolution Mining, Agnico Eagle and Freeport-McMoRan all answer the B2B-or-B2C question the same way, and the evidence is in their filings rather than in their marketing. The metal reaches consumers; the revenue never comes from them. If you need a figure fresher than the ones here, the verification checklist above will get you a current one from a primary document in about a quarter of an hour.
