6 Junior Silver Mining Companies Compared by Stage
Six listed silver companies compared by development stage as of 15 October 2026: Aya, Silver Storm, Silver Tiger, Vizsla, Highlander and Silver Viper. Each entry has a flagship project, a Best for line and pros and cons. Not investment advice.

Key takeaways
- Aya Gold & Silver reported about 1.49 Moz of silver from Zgounder in Q2 2026 (company filing, July 2026), the only name here whose flagship is a producing silver mine.
- Vizsla’s November 2025 feasibility study shows reserves of 12.81 Mt at 249 g/t silver, but its April 2026 update reported a security incident and suspended site work.
- Highlander’s Corani reserve of 229 Moz comes from a 2019 study at US$18 silver; an updated study is pending (Mining.com, 23 Sep 2026).
- Dolly Varden and Bear Creek no longer trade on their own: they merged into Contango and Highlander in 2026.
- Mexico led 2025 silver mining at about 6,300 t, ahead of Peru and China (USGS, 2026), so country risk is shared by most names.

As of 15 October 2026, six listed companies stand out among junior silver mining companies for investors who want to study real projects: Aya Gold & Silver, Silver Storm Mining, Silver Tiger Metals, Vizsla Silver, Highlander Silver and Silver Viper Minerals. They are ordered here by development stage, from a producing mine to a pure exploration story. The order is not a ranking of share-price potential, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell.
A junior silver miner is a small company that explores for or develops silver deposits and has little or no income from production. Several names on this list have grown beyond that label. Others have been bought or renamed since this page was first written, so we rebuilt the list from company filings dated 2026. The sections below give each company’s flagship project, its stage, a “Best for” line, and pros and cons.
Junior silver mining companies compared at a glance
The table shows what each company says it holds today. Stage is the company’s own status in its latest filing. Silver is not the only metal in every project: Silver Tiger, Silver Viper and Highlander also carry meaningful gold.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aya Gold & Silver | TSX, Nasdaq: AYA | Zgounder, Morocco | Producing | Readers who want a working silver mine |
| Silver Storm Mining | TSXV: SVRS | La Parrilla, Mexico | Restart, commissioning | Readers who accept restart risk |
| Silver Tiger Metals | TSX: SLVR | El Tigre, Mexico | Construction decision taken | Readers who want silver plus gold |
| Vizsla Silver | TSX, NYSE: VZLA | Panuco, Mexico | Feasibility study done | Readers focused on high-grade silver |
| Highlander Silver | TSX, NYSE American: HSLV | Corani, Peru | Permitted, study update pending | Readers who want a very large deposit |
| Silver Viper Minerals | TSXV: VIPR | La Virginia and Coneto, Mexico | Exploration | Readers who accept exploration risk |
How we chose these silver juniors
We started from the companies that the old version of this page named and from the searches people run, such as “best junior silver miners” and “emerging silver producers”. We then kept a company only if it met four tests, each checked against a filing or company release dated 2025 or 2026.
- Silver is a core metal in the flagship project. Companies with only a little silver were left out. Gold-heavy names (Silver Tiger, Silver Viper, Highlander) are flagged in their entries.
- A named flagship project with published numbers. That means a resource estimate, a technical study or production results, not just a drill hole.
- The company still trades under the name we give. We checked exchange, ticker and owner of each project.
- A clear stage. We list stages in one order so you can compare like with like: producing, restarting, construction decision, feasibility study done, permitted with the study being updated, exploration.
We did not rank by expected return, and we did not use share prices. A price quoted on a page like this is out of date within days. Check the live quote and the company’s filings on SEDAR+ or SEC EDGAR before you act on anything.
The six companies, from producing to exploring
1. Aya Gold & Silver (TSX, Nasdaq: AYA)
Aya runs the Zgounder silver mine in Morocco. In the second quarter of 2026 it produced about 1.49 million ounces of silver (the table shows 1,489,526 silver-equivalent ounces) at an average head grade of 141 grams per tonne (g/t) and 91.2% silver recovery, processing about 3,889 tonnes a day. Its Boumadine project is still at the exploration and evaluation stage and is not in commercial production; the company is reclaiming a historical pyrite stockpile there.
Best for: readers who want to see what a working silver mine reports each quarter.
- Pros: an operating mine with quarterly production data; high recovery; a second project in the pipeline.
- Cons: it is no longer a small explorer, so it carries fewer “discovery” odds; one flagship mine concentrates operating risk; Morocco is a single jurisdiction.
2. Silver Storm Mining (TSXV: SVRS)
Silver Storm was called Golden Tag Resources until November 2023, when it changed its name. Its flagship is the La Parrilla complex in Durango, Mexico, a past-producing mill and mine. On 11 June 2026 it poured its first silver-gold dorรฉ (an unrefined bar of silver and gold) during commissioning of the oxide circuit. The company’s 2026 news list also shows the first concentrate shipment on 27 July and a private placement that grew to C$21.0 million in August.
The resource base is modest and is not a reserve. A 2025 technical report (effective 31 December 2024) gave 10.8 million ounces silver-equivalent Indicated and 16.3 million ounces Inferred, both in silver-equivalent ounces that include lead and zinc; about 90% of the Indicated tonnage is sulphide. The company says its restart is not backed by a reserve estimate, a preliminary economic assessment or a feasibility study.
Best for: readers who understand restart risk and can read a technical report.
- Pros: existing mill and infrastructure; first dorรฉ and concentrate already produced; resource is mostly sulphide.
- Cons: no feasibility study or reserve behind the restart; small resource so far; funding depends on repeated share sales.
3. Silver Tiger Metals (TSX: SLVR)
Silver Tiger holds the rights to the El Tigre silver-gold property in Sonora, Mexico. Its annual management report for the year to 31 March 2026 says the board approved the construction decision for the Stockwork Zone on 18 March 2026, with first pour targeted for December 2027, and that the shares moved to the TSX on 21 May 2026. The January 2026 pre-feasibility update shows initial capital of US$86.8 million and an after-tax net present value of US$456 million at US$38 silver and US$3,200 gold. The same report says transfer of the property title to the company was still in progress on 25 June 2026.
The project is gold-heavy. The 10-year plan recovers about 9 million ounces of silver but 408,000 ounces of gold. The 2026 resource update, using US$28 silver and US$2,400 gold, lists Measured 34.9 million tonnes at 50 g/t silver and 0.55 g/t gold, Indicated 23.7 million tonnes at 36 g/t silver and 0.40 g/t gold, and Inferred 9.1 million tonnes at 142 g/t silver and 0.92 g/t gold. Much of the Measured class is low-grade oxide material.
Best for: readers who want a near-term build with silver and gold.
- Pros: permits received; construction decision taken; initial capital of US$86.8 million for the Stockwork Zone; fully described in a public technical report.
- Cons: gold supplies most of the value, so silver price is only part of the story; first pour is still more than a year away; title transfer was not complete at the report date.
4. Vizsla Silver (TSX, NYSE: VZLA)
Vizsla’s 100%-owned Panuco project in Sinaloa, Mexico has a feasibility study dated 12 November 2025. Proven and Probable reserves are 12.81 million tonnes at 249 g/t silver and 2.01 g/t gold. The study shows pre-production capital of US$238.7 million (US$173 million net of pre-production revenue), average output of 17.4 million ounces silver-equivalent a year over 9.4 years, and an after-tax NPV of US$1.8 billion at US$35.50 silver and US$3,100 gold. The company’s own reserve prices were lower, at US$28.50 and US$2,300. In July 2026 the company’s annual information form reported an EPCM contract (engineering, procurement and construction management) awarded on 23 April 2026.
The company also disclosed a serious security incident. In an update dated 6 April 2026 it said nine colleagues had been found dead and one remained missing, in the situation in Concordia, Sinaloa, where Panuco is located. Its forward-looking statements referred to site operations that remained suspended. Read its latest updates before drawing any conclusion about timing.
Best for: readers who focus on high-grade silver and a completed feasibility study.
- Pros: a feasibility study with reserves; high reserve grade; strong study economics at the assumed prices; EPCM contractor appointed.
- Cons: the security incident and suspended site work; Mexico permitting and security risk; study economics depend on silver and gold prices well above its reserve prices.
5. Highlander Silver (TSX, NYSE American: HSLV)
Highlander completed its combination with Bear Creek Mining on 26 February 2026, according to its interim financial statements. That brought it 100% of the Corani silver-lead-zinc project in Peru and the Mercedes gold-silver mine in Mexico. Royal Gold holds a 2.75% secured net smelter return royalty on Corani, which means it receives 2.75% of the project’s revenue after smelting costs. Highlander’s other project is San Luis, a gold-silver system in Peru.
Corani’s published reserve is old. Mining.com reported on 23 September 2026 that it is 138.6 million tonnes at 51.3 g/t silver for 229 million ounces, from a November 2019 study that assumed US$18 silver and US$579 million of initial capital. An updated feasibility study is expected in 2026. Highlander has also hired Natixis to lead a proposed US$330 million, seven-year project loan, with closing targeted for the first quarter of 2027 and a cost-overrun provision of up to US$100 million. Mining.com reports about US$100 million of cash and no debt at 30 June 2026; the company’s April 2026 update described site work and drilling at Corani.
Best for: readers who want scale: a very large, permitted silver deposit.
- Pros: a 229-million-ounce reserve in the 2019 study; permits in place; a working gold-silver mine for cash flow; no debt at the last report.
- Cons: reserve and cost figures date from 2019 and will change; build capital is large compared with the other names here; its market value was about C$1.55 billion on 23 September 2026 (Mining.com), so it is no longer small.
6. Silver Viper Minerals (TSXV: VIPR)
Silver Viper is a true exploration company. Its website lists La Virginia in Sonora, Coneto in Durango and the Cimarron gold-copper project in Sinaloa. The 2021 La Virginia resource shows 6.92 million ounces of silver in the Indicated class and 12.94 million in the Inferred class, plus gold. Coneto, bought from Fresnillo and Orex Minerals, has an Inferred resource of 19.1 million ounces of silver at 112 g/t and 286,000 ounces of gold. Inferred means the lowest confidence class: it cannot be converted to a reserve, and only a preliminary economic assessment may use it.
Best for: readers who accept drill-result risk in exchange for exploration upside.
- Pros: two district-scale projects in Mexico; a high-grade silver resource at Coneto; La Virginia has a drilling history, including a 2025 program.
- Cons: mostly Inferred resources; no feasibility study; gold is a large part of the metal value; juniors often raise equity to fund drilling, which dilutes holders.
Names that changed: Dolly Varden, Bear Creek and Discovery
Three names that appear in older lists no longer fit the label of a small, independent silver company. Check for this before you trust any “best silver juniors” article, including older versions of this one.
- Dolly Varden Silver merged into Contango ORE on 26 March 2026, according to Contango’s release. The Kitsault Valley project is now part of Contango Silver & Gold (NYSE American: CTGO).
- Bear Creek Mining was absorbed by Highlander Silver on 26 February 2026, so Corani and Mercedes now sit under Highlander.
- Discovery Silver bought the Porcupine gold complex in Ontario in 2025 and is now mainly a gold producer. Its website and May 2026 results show 2026 gold guidance of 260,000 to 300,000 ounces, with the Cordero silver project in Chihuahua, Mexico still in development.

- 5FundingMatch cash and debt to the capital the study needs.
Chart
Silver price assumed in selected studies and resource estimates
US$ per troy ounce; FS and PFS = study economics, MRE and res. = resource or reserve price
- Resource class. Measured and Indicated resources are well enough known for an economic study. Inferred resources are not. A reserve (Proven and Probable) is the part of a resource shown to be economic by a study. Never add resources and reserves together.
- Grade. Silver grade is quoted in grams per tonne (g/t). One troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, so 250 g/t is about 8 ounces per tonne. Narrow veins can run to hundreds of g/t, while bulk open-pit deposits run at tens of g/t but hold many more tonnes.
- Silver-equivalent (AgEq). Companies convert gold and base metals into silver ounces using a price ratio. AgEq changes when the ratio or the prices change, so check the assumptions in the footnotes.
- Study stage. A preliminary economic assessment (PEA) can use Inferred resources. A pre-feasibility study (PFS) and a feasibility study (FS) rely on reserves and carry smaller error margins.
- Funding. Compare cash with the capital the study needs, and note how many new shares were issued in the last two years.
Price assumptions are the quickest way to be misled. Each study uses its own silver price, so net present values (NPVs) are not comparable across companies. The chart below shows the silver price used in the latest study or guidance of five projects in this guide.
What the silver market means for small producers
Silver mostly comes from mines where it is a by-product. Lead-zinc mines remain the largest source, and copper and gold operations raised their silver output in 2025, according to the Silver Institute’s World Silver Survey 2026. That survey puts 2025 mine production at 846.6 million ounces, up 3%, and total demand at 1.13 billion ounces, down 2%. It calls 2025 the fifth straight year in which demand exceeded supply and forecasts a deficit of 46.3 million ounces in 2026, with mine output flat.
Chart

Tonnes of contained silver, eight largest producers (USGS estimates)
By country, Mexico led 2025 output with an estimated 6,300 tonnes, ahead of Peru and China, in the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. Five of the six companies in this guide hold their main project in Mexico or Peru, so country risk is shared across the list.
Check a silver project’s numbers yourself
The calculator below turns tonnes and grade into ounces and a gross value, using a silver price and a cost per ounce that you enter. The defaults are round examples, not any company’s figures. For a real project, copy the tonnage and grade from the company’s reserve or resource table, and use the current silver price. Remember that a gross value is before capital costs, royalties and tax.

- Margin over your cost: 2,531.9 US$ million
Example values only, not any company’s figures and not a forecast. Silver price and cost per ounce are inputs: use today’s price. 31.1035 grams per troy ounce is the standard conversion. Values are in US$ million, before capital, royalties and tax.
Risks that can sink a small silver company
- Silver price swings. The Silver Institute reports a record above US$121 an ounce on 29 January 2026, then a drop to the mid-US$70s in early April. The chart below stops at the 2025 USGS estimate; 2026 prices have been far higher than any of those averages. A project that works at one price can fail at another.
- Dilution. Juniors pay for drilling by selling shares. Each sale cuts the share of every existing holder.
- Jurisdiction and security. Mexico and Peru host most silver projects, and both have permitting delays, community disputes and security risks. Vizsla’s April 2026 statement shows these risks are not abstract.
- Equivalent-ounce headlines. A headline in silver-equivalent ounces can hide that gold supplies most of the value.
- Cost overruns. Study capital is an estimate. Highlander’s 2019 Corani figure is a reminder that older numbers can be far from today’s costs.

Frequently asked questions
What is a junior silver miner?
It is a small company that explores for or develops silver deposits and has little or no production of its own. Most list on the TSX Venture Exchange, the CSE or the ASX and fund drilling by selling shares.
Which junior silver mining companies have a feasibility study?
In this guide, Vizsla Silver has a feasibility study dated November 2025 for Panuco. Highlander’s Corani feasibility study dates from 2019 and an update is promised. Silver Tiger has a pre-feasibility update from January 2026.
Are any of these companies producing silver now?
Aya Gold & Silver produces silver at Zgounder, and Silver Storm poured its first dorรฉ at La Parrilla in June 2026 during commissioning. The others are building, studying or exploring.
What does silver-equivalent (AgEq) mean?
It converts the gold and base metals in a deposit into silver ounces at a fixed price ratio. The ratio is stated in the footnotes of each report, and it changes the result a lot.
What is the difference between a resource and a reserve?
A resource is mineralized material with reasonable prospects of being mined. A reserve is the part shown by a study to be economic. Reserves are a subset, so do not add the two.
Why do silver price assumptions differ between studies?
Each study uses the price available on its date, or a consensus forecast. Corani’s 2019 study used US$18, while Silver Tiger’s 2026 update used US$38. Compare NPVs only at the same price.
Where is most silver mined?
USGS estimates Mexico led 2025 mine production at 6,300 tonnes, ahead of Peru at 3,600 tonnes and China at 3,400 tonnes. Silver is mostly a by-product of lead, zinc, copper and gold mining.
Is Dolly Varden Silver still a separate company?
No. It merged into Contango ORE on 26 March 2026, and the combined company is called Contango Silver & Gold.
Is Bear Creek Mining still listed?
Highlander Silver completed its combination with Bear Creek on 26 February 2026. Corani and the Mercedes mine are now Highlander assets.
How do I check a company’s resource numbers myself?
Open its technical report on SEDAR+ (Canada) or EDGAR (United States). Look for the resource table, the effective date, the price assumptions and the qualified person’s name.
Can I use satellite data to evaluate a silver project?
Satellite data can show alteration and structure over a large area, which helps targeting. It cannot replace sampling, drilling or a resource estimate prepared to NI 43-101 or JORC standards.
What to take from this list
Six companies cover most of what the junior silver mining sector offers today: a working mine, a restart, a build decision, a finished feasibility study, a very large permitted deposit and a drill-stage explorer. The right comparison depends on your tolerance for study-stage risk, jurisdiction risk and dilution, not on which name looks cheapest.
